Every week on Stadium Sportzz, we will be posting weekly reviews of the three major men’s college basketball programs in the state.

With college basketball season just underway, let’s take a look at the results for each of the teams as they push for a bid to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Utah State Aggies (1-1)

The Ryan Odom era began on a disappointing note before the Aggies rebounded with a win over Richmond to even its record at 1-1 early in the season.

Tuesday vs. UC Davis – lost 72-69

The Ryan Odom era got off to a rough start against UC Davis from the Big West Conference, as Utah State fell at home in a close contest.

Brandon Horvath led the Aggies with 19 points and seven rebounds, while Justin Bean added a double-double with 16 points and 13 rebounds.

In the loss, Utah State shot just 36.1 percent from the field and 26.7 percent from behind the arc. 

Friday vs. Richmond – won 85-74

Playing in the Veterans Classic in Annapolis, Maryland, the Aggies recorded their first win of the Ryan Odom era against Richmond.

Justin Bean had a career night for Utah State, dropping 30 points while adding 14 rebounds. Brandon Horvath added 18 points for the Aggies and Trevin Dorius added 11 off the bench.

As a team, the Aggies made 55.4 percent of their shot attempts, including 44.4 of their three-pointers (8 of 18). They also outrebounded the Spiders 40-31 and committed just eight turnovers. 

Up next

The Aggies now head to South Carolina for the Myrtle Beach Invitational to face Penn of the Ivy League on Thursday, followed by the winner of the New Mexico/Davidson matchup on Friday.

The matchup against the Quakers will take place at 12 p.m. and can be viewed on ESPNU. The second game of the Myrtle Beach Invitational has not announced a time or TV channel due to the matchup not being determined.
