Every week on Stadium Sportzz, we will be posting weekly reviews of the three major men’s college basketball programs in the state.

With college basketball season just underway, let’s take a look at the results for each of the teams as they push for a bid to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Utah State Aggies (6-2)

The Aggies’ winning streak reached six games before they lost a close contest on Thursday. Splitting the pair of games from the last week, Utah State now has a record of 6-2.

Monday vs. Carroll College – won 93-63

Playing an NAIA school from Montana, the Aggies rolled to a sixth straight victory at home on Monday night.

Brandon Horvath was the top performer for Utah State, scoring 20 points on 8-of-10 shooting. Justin Bean added a double-double with 14 points and 11 rebounds.

Zee Hamoda chipped in 15 points off the bench, while Brock Miller added 11.

Utah State connected on 57.1 percent of their shot attempts and outrebounded the Fighting Saints 42-24.

The Aggies also led the way in assists, outpacing Carroll College 26 to 10.

Thursday vs. Saint Mary’s – lost 60-58

Utah State’s winning streak came to an end on Thursday, with Saint Mary’s hitting two free throws with 0.9 seconds left to win the game.

Justin Bean scored 19 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in the loss, while Steven Ashworth added 12 points.

The Aggies shot just 37.7 percent from the field in the game, including a dismal 20 percent (3-15) from three.

Up next

The Aggies now travel to Provo for an in-state battle with No. 24 BYU on Wednesday night, before facing New Orleans of the Southland Conference on Saturday night at home.

The game against the Cougars will tip-off at 7 p.m. and can be seen on BYUtv. The game versus the Privateers begins at 7 p.m. and can be streamed on the Mountain West Network.
