Every week on Stadium Sportzz, we will be posting weekly reviews of the three major men’s college basketball programs in the state.

With college basketball season just underway, let’s take a look at the results for each of the teams as they push for a bid to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Utah State Aggies (7-3)

The Aggies’ losing streak reached two after a loss to BYU before they rebounded with a big win on Saturday night. They now have a record of 7 wins and 3 losses through their first 10 games of the campaign.

Wednesday @ No. 24 BYU – lost 82-71

Taking on rival BYU in Provo, the Aggies fell behind and couldn’t get back into the game, losing for the tenth straight time to the Cougars.

BYU led by 12 at halftime before the lead grew to 20 in the second period. The Aggies cut the deficit to seven before faltering at the free-throw line as the comeback attempt stalled.

Justin Bean was the top performer for Utah State, scoring 20 points and grabbing seven rebounds. Brandon Horvath added 14 points and seven rebounds while Sean Bairstow added 11.

Utah State connected on 52 percent of their shot attempts against the Cougars, but made just 9-of-20 free throw attempts (45 percent) and were outrebounded 31-26.

Saturday vs. New Orleans – won 82-50

Utah State’s losing skid came to an end on Saturday night as they ran away from New Orleans of the Southland Conference.

The Aggies led from start to finish, leading by 41 at halftime and ultimately cruising to a 32-point victory over the Privateers.

Justin Bean scored 14 points and grabbed eight rebounds in the win, while RJ Eytle-Rock added 14 points of his own. Trevin Dorius chipped in 12 points off the bench for the Aggies.

The Aggies shot 39.4 percent from the three-point line in the game (13-33) while also leading the way in assists (26 to 11) versus New Orleans.

The Aggies now travel to Ogden for an in-state battle with Weber State on Wednesday night, before facing Iowa of the Big Ten on Saturday night in South Dakota.

The game against the Wildcats will tip-off at 7 p.m. and can be seen on both KJZZ and ESPN+. The game versus the Hawkeyes begins at 7 p.m. and can be watched on the Big Ten Network.
