Every week on Stadium Sportzz, we will be posting weekly reviews of the three major men’s college basketball programs in the state.

With college basketball season just underway, let’s take a look at the results for each of the teams as they push for a bid to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

Utah Utes (7-3)

Falling to TCU midweek, the Utes rebounded with a blowout home victory to improve to 7-3 at the 10-game mark of the season.

Wednesday vs. TCU – lost 76-62 

Facing former Mountain West foe TCU (now Big 12) in Fort Worth, the Utes fell for the third time this season.

Branden Carlson and Both Gach both led the Utes with 16 points apiece in the loss.

Utah shot just 33.9 percent from the field, making only 3 out of 20 three-pointers (15 percent). The Utes were also outrebounded 43-33 in the loss.

Saturday vs. Manhattan – won 96-62

After a double-digit loss on Wednesday, the Utes responded with a resounding win over Manhattan of the MAAC on Saturday.

Utah led from start to finish, improving to 5-1 at home with the 34-point victory.

Lahat Thioune led the Utes with 16 points, while Riley Battin added 14. Branden Carlson and Both Gach chipped in 13 and 12 points, respectively.

Utah shot a blistering 58.3 percent (35-60) from the field in the game, highlighted by a 10-for-18 (55.6 percent) performance from downtown and making 16 of 18 free throws.

The Utes tallied 26 assists on their 35 made field goals while also outrebounding the Jaspers 40-27.

Up next

The Utes will face Missouri from the SEC on the road Saturday in their lone contest of the week. 

The game against the Tigers will tip off at 2:30 p.m. and can be seen on the SEC Network.
