FCS football: SUU takes down Utah Tech, Weber State wins to stay undefeated

No. 16 BYU

Opening their WCC slate this past week, BYU began conference play with a perfect 2-0 start.

The Cougars defeated Loyola Marymount 3-0 on Thursday, before beating No. 17 Pepperdine on Saturday, 3-1. BYU has now won four straight matches.

BYU (9-4, 2-0 WCC) turns its attention to a pair of conference road matches this week.

First, the Cougars will battle Portland on Thursday, Sep. 29 at 7 p.m. MT. They’ll then face Gonzaga on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. MT.

Utah Valley

After dropping three straight matches to in-state opponents, the Wolverines were looking to get back on track as they opened WAC play.

They did just that, winning twice to start conference play perfectly.

UVU first beat Utah Tech 3-0 in the ‘Old Hammer Rivalry’ on Thursday before defeating Seattle in straight sets on Saturday.

UVU (7-6, 2-0 WAC) plays just one WAC match this week.

The Wolverines will host Sam Houston State on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 1 p.m. The match can be seen on ESPN+.

Utah 

Opening the Pac-12 portion of its schedule, the Utes split a pair of games this past week.

The Utes fell in straight sets versus Colorado on Thursday, before rebounding with a five-set win over Arizona on Saturday.

Up next

Utah (8-5, 1-1 Pac-12) will now travel to Southern California for two games this week.

First, the Utes will face UCLA on Friday, Sep. 30 at 8 p.m. MT. They’ll then take on USC on Sunday, Oct. 2 at 2 p.m. MT.

Utah State

The Aggies opened up Mountain West play this week, splitting a pair of matches.

First, Utah State fought back for a thrilling five-set win over Air Force on Thursday, before falling in straight sets to New Mexico on Saturday.

The Aggies will first battle Nevada on Thursday, Sep. 29 at 7 p.m. MT before facing San Jose State on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. MT.

Utah State football: Please let the season end…now 

Weber State

Beginning Big Sky Conference play, Weber State split a pair of games this past week.

The Wildcats first fell in straight sets at Portland State on Thursday, before recording a 3-1 win against Northern Arizona on Saturday.

The Wildcats will travel to Idaho State, facing the Bengals on Friday, Sep. 30 at 7 p.m. The match can be seen on ESPN+.

Southern Utah

Opening WAC play, the T-birds began the week with a loss before picking up a big rivalry win during the weekend.

SUU fell in straight sets at Cal Baptist on Thursday before taking down rival Utah Tech 3-1 on Saturday to claim their first conference win.

SUU (2-9, 1-1 WAC) now looks to build a winning streak this next week facing two more WAC opponents.

The T-birds will travel to New Mexico State on Thursday, Sep. 29 at 5 p.m. MT before facing UT Rio Grande Valley on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 12 p.m. MT.

Utah Tech

Facing two in-state opponents to open conference play, Utah Tech came out on the short end and is now on a three-game losing streak.

The Trailblazers fell in straight sets at home against UVU on Thursday before losing 3-1 to Southern Utah on Saturday.
