Facing Colorado State on the road, Utah State had to turn to its fourth-string quarterback to pull out the ugly win.

Trailing 10-7 at halftime and without new starter Cooper Legas and backup quarterback Levi Williams due to injuries, the Aggies seemed doomed to a loss.

Enter Bishop Davenport, a true freshman who was now put in to keep the Aggies’ hopes of a bowl game alive.

After USU tied the game in the third quarter thanks to a 48-yard Connor Coles field goal, Davenport led the offense on a touchdown drive.

Marching 59 yards in eight plays, Davenport capped off the drive with a four-yard run on the ground for the score. After trailing, the Aggies now led 17-13.

Behind a strong defense, Utah State held the Rams to just a field goal for the remainder of the contest for a 17-13 win.

Calvin Tyler Jr. led the Aggies’ offense, rushing for 129 yards on 24 carries. It was the third straight 100-yard performance for Tyler, the first USU running back to accomplish the feat since Kerwynn Williams in 2012.

Up next

Now 2-1 in Mountain West play (3-4 overall), the Aggies travel to Laramie to face Wyoming on Saturday, Oct. 22.

Looking for its third straight win, USU will battle the Cowboys at 7:45 p.m. The Bridger’s Battle can be seen on FS2.
