Another week in the books at the FCS level, and Weber State, SUU, and Utah Tech all dropped close contests.

Volleyball: Scores from the past week as UVU’s win streak reaches six

No. 5/7 Weber State

Facing last season’s FCS runners-up Montana State on the road, Weber State fell in a close contest for its first loss of the season.

Leading 24-9 near the start of the second quarter, Montana State scored 24 unanswered points to take a 43-24 lead.

Aided in part by an FCS-record four safeties, Weber State was unable to recover in a loss to a ranked opponent on the road.

Weber State’s rushing attack led the offense, racking up 206 yards on 39 attempts. Dontae McMillan led the team with 76 rushing yards, while Bronson Barron and Damon Bankston added touchdowns on the ground.

Along with the rushing touchdown, Barron added 151 yards with one touchdown and one interception through the air. Ty MacPherson caught the scoring toss and led all Weber State receivers with 69 yards from five catches.

Up next

Weber State (6-1, 3-1 Big Sky) will now return to Ogden for its next three games.

The Wildcats will battle No. 10/11 Montana on Saturday, Oct. 29 at 1 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

Southern Utah

Southern Utah fell in another close game on Saturday, dropping a 41-38 decision to No. 20 Stephen F. Austin at home.

The loss was the fourth straight for SUU, and all of them have come by seven points or less.

The T-birds led 7-0 early, before falling behind 28-13 midway through the second quarter. SUU rallied back to take a 32-28 lead and led 38-34 halfway through the final quarter.

Stephen F. Austin was able to cap off a 4-play, 70-yard drive with a touchdown with 6:14 to go to take a 41-38 lead, a score that held until the final whistle.

Justin Miller led the SUU offense, completing 22-of-34 passes for 297 yards with 3 touchdowns and an interception.

Braedon Wissler led the T-birds’ ground attack, racking up 156 yards and a touchdown on 14 carries.

Up next

The T-birds (3-5, 1-3 WAC) now have a bye week, followed by a trip south to St. George to face Utah Tech.

SUU and Utah Tech face off on Saturday, Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. The game can be seen on ESPN+.

USU football: Offense falls flat in loss to Wyoming

Utah Tech

Facing Sam Houston at home following a bye, Utah Tech fell 18-13 in a close game.

The Trailblazers have now lost five straight games.

The Trailblazers (1-6, 0-2 WAC) hit the road to face Stephen F. Austin next.
