No. 5/7 Weber State

Looking to get back on track after a mistake-filled loss to Montana State, the Wildcats returned home to face No. 10/11 Montana on Saturday.

Montana scored the first points of the matchup, converting a 41-yard field goal before Weber State answered with a 47-yard touchdown from Damon Bankston to jump in front, 7-3.

Both teams added points in the second quarter, with a Wildcats field goal and a Grizzlies touchdown sending the game tied at 10 heading into halftime.

Montana regained the lead in the third quarter thanks to another field goal, but a 3-play, 75-yard drive from Weber State put them back in front just moments later. Bronson Barron threw a 69-yard score to Ty MacPherson to put the Wildcats ahead 17-13.

Weber State made the score 24-13 with just under six minutes to play in the fourth quarter when Barron found Hayden Meacham for a 12-yard touchdown.

Montana returned the ensuing kickoff for 100 yards and was successful on a two-point conversion, making the score 24-21.

On the final drive of the game, Weber State was able to convert on a fourth down with just over two minutes to go to ice the game and seal the victory.

Dontae McMillan led the Wildcats’ rushing attack offense in the game, tallying 100 yards on 23 carries, while Bankston added 79 yards and a touchdown. Barron completed 14-of-23 passes through the air for Weber State, adding two touchdowns.

The game was a back-and-forth affair, with the two sides trading scores throughout. Utah Tech led by 10 points on three different occasions, only for Stephen F. Austin to battle back each time.

Trailing 44-40 after a Lumberjacks touchdown with 2:19 left, the Trailblazers took the ball with two timeouts looking to steal the upset win.

Utah Tech marched 75 yards in five plays, ending with a Victor Gabalis 14-yard scoring toss to Joey Hobert for the 47-44 advantage with only 47 seconds remaining.

The game wasn’t over, however, as Stephen F. Austin marched all the way down to the 1-yard line. With one second remaining, the Lumberjacks opted to go for the win, but a short pass attempt was batted away by Utah Tech to complete the stunning upset.

Gabalis led the fireworks display that was the Utah Tech offense, completing 23-of-35 passes for a career-high 377 yards and a school single-game record five touchdowns.

Quali Conley amassed 131 yards and a touchdown on 23 carries to lead the rushing attack, his fourth 100-yard output of the season. Hobert caught nine passes for 109 yards and three scores, and he now sits atop the WAC leaderboard in touchdown catches this season (10).
