After crushing Southern Utah on Thursday, all UVU needed was a draw to claim the outright conference title and the No. 1 seed in the WAC Tournament.

College soccer: UVU dominates SUU, closes in on WAC title

Playing Utah Tech in the final match of the regular season on Saturday, Utah Valley claimed a 2-0 victory, clinching the WAC championship.

The game was scoreless in the first half, despite the Wolverines holding the advantage in possession and shots.

Wanting to secure the conference title with a win on their home field, UVU finally broke through in the second half.

Heather Stainbrook showed some nifty footwork, getting around the Utah Tech defense and firing a laser shot into the far left side of the net to give the Wolverines a 1-0 lead in the 53rd minute.

The goal was Stainbrook’s 13th of the season and also gives her 73 career points for UVU,  moving into the top spot of the program record books. Stainbrook is also the leading goal scorer in team history with 28 goals, surpassing the previous record of 26.

The Wolverines added a second goal just two minutes later, all but securing the WAC regular season title. The goal was scored by Faith Webber, her 12th of the season.

Utah Valley saw out the final minutes of the match, before rushing onto the field in celebration of winning the WAC championship.

UVU outshot the Trailblazers 28-3 in the match – including 8-0 on target – while dominating possession to clinch the second WAC regular season title in team history. The Wolverines last won the conference title in 2020, and have also won the WAC Tournament on three occasions since joining the league in 2013.

Utah Valley concluded the regular season with a 13-3-3 (W-L-D) record, including a 9-1-1 mark in conference action.
