After a hard-fought road loss in the season opener, SUU tipped off the home portion of the schedule with a blowout win.

Facing Division III La Verne University (CA), the T-birds led virtually from start to finish in securing a dominant first win of the 2022-23 season.

After the Leopards scored the first bucket, SUU scored the next eight points and never trailed again.

Southern Utah led by 25 at halftime (54-29), but the lead grew even more in the second frame.

The Thunderbirds outscored the visitors 63-26 in the final 20 minutes, capping off a 117-55 victory.

SUU shot a blistering 54% from the field in the game, including 42% from three (11-26). The defense was also top-notch from the home team, as they held La Verne to 35% shooting while forcing 31 turnovers.

Six different T-birds scored in double figures in the game, led by 17 from Drake Allen. Harrison Butler added 16, while Tevian Jones added 14 in the win.
