No. 15 BYU vs. Utah Valley

Facing off in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, there was everything to play for as these crosstown rivals faced off on Friday night.

Playing at South Field in Provo, Utah Valley was looking to upset BYU for the second time this season. BYU on the other hand was looking to avenge an early season loss as they look to make a return trip to the College Cup title match.

In front of nearly 4,000 fans, it was the Cougars who would come out on top to advance.

The match was scoreless throughout much of the opening half before BYU’s Allie Fryer found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.

The Cougars doubled the lead in the 70th minute via a Tara Warner strike, before sealing the game with a 79th-minute goal from Rachel McCarthy.

BYU outshot Utah Valley in the match (21-11), while also doubling the Wolverines’ efforts in shots on target (10-5).

Utah Valley concludes the season with a 14-5-3 record, with the 14 victories equaling a single-season program best. The Wolverines also won the regular season WAC championship.
