After another week of college soccer, just one of the state’s teams remains as they chase glory in the NCAA Tournament.

FCS football: All three schools tally wins in home finales

No. 15 BYU vs. Utah Valley

Facing off in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, there was everything to play for as these crosstown rivals faced off on Friday night.

Playing at South Field in Provo, Utah Valley was looking to upset BYU for the second time this season. BYU on the other hand was looking to avenge an early season loss as they look to make a return trip to the College Cup title match.

In front of nearly 4,000 fans, it was the Cougars who would come out on top to advance.

The match was scoreless throughout much of the opening half before BYU’s Allie Fryer found the back of the net for the 1-0 lead in the 39th minute.

The Cougars doubled the lead in the 70th minute via a Tara Warner strike, before sealing the game with a 79th-minute goal from Rachel McCarthy.

BYU outshot Utah Valley in the match (21-11), while also doubling the Wolverines’ efforts in shots on target (10-5).

Utah Valley concludes the season with a 14-5-3 record, with the 14 victories equaling a single-season program best. The Wolverines also won the regular season WAC championship.

Sixth-seeded BYU will now face the No. 3 seed Stanford Cardinal in round two of the NCAA Tournament.

The match will take place on Thursday, Nov. 17 at 12 p.m. MT and can be seen on ESPN+.

Utah Valley men’s soccer

Facing Cal Baptist in the first round of the WAC Tournament on Wednesday, the Wolverines fell 3-1, ending their season.

UVU finishes the campaign with a 7-8-1 overall record, including a 5-4 mark in WAC action, good for fourth place. The Wolverines also tallied a perfect 5-0 record at home.
