Trailblazers run away early against the Lions for their fifth straight win on Thursday afternoon.

After giving up the first basket of the afternoon, Utah Tech nearly led the rest of the way while picking up a big win at home.

A three-pointer by Frank Staine gave the Trailblazers their first double-digit lead, 22-10 at the 11:48 mark of the first half.

The lead only grew from there, with Utah Tech making it a 22-point game via a Cameron Gooden three-pointer for the 41-19 lead with 4:24 to go in the opening half.

The Trailblazers made it a 30-point advantage when a free throw from Dancell Leter with just under two minutes left in the first half made the score 52-22.

Things were much of the same in half number two, with Utah Tech’s lead reaching a game-high 44 points with under 11 minutes to go, 79-35.

The Lions made a late run to shrink the Trailblazer lead, but Utah Tech still tallied a 95-64 win.

Isaiah Pope led the way for the Trailblazers, dropping 25 points while adding five assists. Noa Gonsalves added 19 for the home team in the big win.

Utah Tech shot 52.4% from the field in the game, including a blistering 14-of-28 from downtown. The Trailblazers also outrebounded the Lions, 45-29.

With a fifth straight victory, Utah Tech improves to 8-5 on the season.
