The T-birds completed the season sweep of last season’s WAC champions at home on Thursday night, continuing their hot start to conference play.

SUU scored the first two points of the game, but just minutes later New Mexico State had a five-point advantage.

The home team made sure the deficit didn’t grow any larger, answering with a 10-0 run to take a 14-9 lead at the 16:20 mark of the first half.

While it seemed as though it would be a back-and-forth battle, Southern Utah never again relinquished the lead and turned the game into a blowout.

The T-birds took a double-digit lead (29-18) for the first time thanks to a Cameron Healy three-pointer at the 10:53 mark, before stretching the advantage to 20 at halftime, 58-38.

The offensive onslaught continued in the second half for SUU, as the lead reached 31 with just under 14 minutes to play.

The home team outscored the Aggies 53-38 in the final frame, cruising to a 111-76 victory.

Southern Utah shot a sizzling 64% from the field in the contest (37-58), including 57% from three (20-35). SUU notched 34 points off of NMSU’s turnovers, while the bench also tallied 47 points to the Aggies’ 26.

Tevian Jones scored 20 points to lead six T-birds in double figures. Maizen Fausett and Harrison Butler each added 15 for the home team.

The win was the fourth in a row for SUU, who improved to 6-1 in WAC play.
