Facing its second straight FBS opponent, the T-birds fell 41-16 to drop to 0-2 on the season.

SUU opened the scoring against the Cougars, with a Tyler Graham 29-yard field goal midway through the opening frame making the score 3-0.

BYU responded with just over a minute left in the first quarter, taking a 6-3 lead on a 20-yard touchdown pass from Kedon Slovis to Isaac Rex.

Despite a valiant effort from the T-birds, the Cougars took control in the second quarter. BYU added three touchdowns in the period, taking a 27-3 lead into the halftime break.

Southern Utah recorded its first touchdown of the game four minutes into the second half when Justin Miller tossed a 33-yard score to Isaiah Wooden that made the score 27-10.

The Cougars responded with the next two touchdowns, marching down the field once in each quarter to increase their advantage to 41-10.

The T-birds notched the final touchdown of the contest with just over five minutes to play thanks to a 2-yard run by Targhee Lambson. It was not enough to overcome BYU however, as SUU fell 41-16 to fall to 0-2 on the young season.

Quarterback Justin Miller led the Southern Utah passing game, completing 16-of-30 passes for 235 yards with a touchdown and an interception.

Wide receiver Zach Mitchell had a solid performance for the T-birds offense, catching seven passes for 135 yards.

SUU’s defense allowed just 46 rushing yards to the Cougars while also forcing an interception.

The T-birds will wrap up their season-opening three-game road trip next, traveling to face FCS No. 16 UC Davis on Saturday, Sep. 16.
