Facing Tarleton State on the road, SUU volleyball notched a four-set road victory on Saturday night.

The first set between the two teams was evenly matched, with the score tied at 16-16 before the Texans used a 5-3 run to go in front 21-19.

SUU responded with the next three points, jumping ahead 22-21 before winning the set, 26-24.

The T-birds used the momentum gained from the end of set one to start off strong in set two, taking an 11-7 lead.

Tarleton State responded by taking six of the next eight points to make it 13-13, and both teams traded points until the score reached 20-20. Much like the first set, SUU was able to end the second set on a high note. The visitors went on a 5-1 run to take the set 25-21 and a 2-0 set advantage.

The Texans took a 15-12 lead in the third set, but the T-birds responded with a 6-3 run to tie it at 18-18. Despite the run, Tarleton State took the set 25-23, cutting SUU’s set lead to 2-1.

The T-birds came out in the fourth set determined to finish off the match, jumping in front 14-10. The Texans responded by notching six of the next eight points to even the score at 16 all. SUU shut down any chance of a Tarleton State comeback, however, recording nine of the final 14 points to record a 25-21 set win and the 3-1 match victory.

The win is the first in WAC play for the T-birds, as they improve to 1-5 in conference action and 5-11 overall.
