Traveling to Texas to face Stephen F. Austin, SUU football used a strong second half to record a 45-17 victory.

Both teams started slowly in the contest, with many of the first half possessions ending in punts.

With the game tied at 3-3 near the end of the opening half, the T-birds notched the first touchdown of the game with 22 seconds remaining. Justin Miller tossed a 25-yard ball to Isaiah Wooden to cap a 10-play, 69-yard drive to put the road team ahead 10-3.

Southern Utah carried the momentum from the end of the first half to the second, adding a pair of touchdowns in the third quarter while keeping the Lumberjacks off the scoreboard.

Needing just two plays on their first drive, Miller threw a 39-yard touchdown to Wooden barely two minutes into the third period to increase the T-birds’ lead to 17-3.

SUU extended its advantage just over five minutes later, with Miller and Wooden connecting once again for a touchdown.

This time, Miller found the speedy Wooden for a 38-yard score at the 7:02 mark of the third quarter to make the score 24-3.

More fireworks in the fourth

The T-birds tallied a fourth straight unanswered touchdown midway through the fourth quarter, with Miller and Wooden connecting for their fourth scoring play of the game.

Using just over eight minutes on the clock, Southern Utah drove 82 yards in 12 plays, capped by the 7-yard touchdown from Miller to Wooden to extend the lead to 31-3.

Following a Stephen F. Austin touchdown, SUU added a pair of touchdowns, increasing its advantage to 45-10. Both scores were on the ground, with the first coming courtesy of a 30-yard dash by Braedon Wissler.

The second rushing score came from Cade Bowring with 4:29 on the clock. Bowring found the endzone from 10 yards out for his first career touchdown.

SFA scored one last touchdown as the clock ran out, and the T-birds secured the 45-17 blowout victory.

A third consecutive win improves Southern Utah’s record to 5-5 (3-2 UAC) with one game to play.

Justin Miller led the passing attack for SUU, completing 13 of 19 passes for 223 yards, 4 touchdowns and an interception.

Isaiah Wooden had a standout game on the receiving end, catching five passes for 123 yards and four touchdowns. Braedon Wissler led the rushing attack, tallying 107 yards and a score on 17 carries.
