Wrapping up play at the Louisiana Tech MTE, the T-birds beat the Texas State Bobcats 74-67 Wednesday afternoon.

SUU trailed by as many as nine points in the opening half but continued to chip away at the Texas State lead.

The T-birds took their first lead of the game thanks to a 7-0 run to end the half, taking a 28-25 lead into the break.

The second half was back-and-forth early as neither team was able to break away. After the Bobcats cut the T-birds’ advantage to five just over five minutes into the period, SUU responded with a 7-1 spurt to take its first double-digit lead, 46-35.

Texas State was able to cut the lead back to six, but three straight three-pointers gave Southern Utah its largest lead of 15 (55-40) with just under 10 minutes to play.

The Bobcats were unable to get closer than six points in the final minutes as SUU closed out a 74-67 victory.

Zion Young led all scorers in the contest, notching 25 points on 8-of-13 shooting while adding seven rebounds.

Dominique Ford chipped in 16 points for the T-birds to go alongside six rebounds, five assists, and three steals.

SUU (2-3) now returns to Cedar City to open WAC play.

The T-birds will battle Cal Baptist on Wednesday, Nov. 29 at 6:30 p.m., with the matchup being streamed on ESPN+.
