Finishing a two-match Idaho road trip, the SUU soccer team was defeated 3-0 by the Broncos on Sunday afternoon.

The T-birds were on the defensive from the start of the match, as Boise State pushed to create offensive chances.

Despite creating more scoring chances – 13 shots to 3 in the first half – the Broncos were kept off the scoresheet by the SUU defense for the first 45 minutes. Darya Mosallaei made six saves in the first half as the game remained scoreless heading to the second period.

While the Thunderbirds defended admirably in the first half, the Boise State pressure became too much in the second 45 minutes.

It took just over four minutes for the Broncos to score the game’s first goal, and three minutes later they added a second. Boise State finished off the 3-0 win with a penalty kick goal in the 86th minute.

SUU was outshot 19-5 in the match, including 9-3 in shots on target. It was only the third time the T-birds were outshot in a game this season, and the loss dropped their record to 1-5-2.

“Tough loss on the road. Anyone who watched the first half can be very proud of this squad,” SUU head coach Kai Edwards said of the match.

“Boise made us pay for two mental lapses. I felt we had some very good performances and the group was all in, but a loss is a loss. We have two Big Sky opponents coming up and we are excited to play at home Thursday,” he added.
