No. 11 BYU traveled to Orlando to take on UCF Saturday afternoon as the Cougars looked to keep their undefeated season going in another Big 12 showdown.

As fans entered FBC Mortgage Stadium, many quickly noticed the large BYU contingent wearing white and blue. Jokes started to quickly pour in on social media that Knight fans didn’t realize Saturday’s game was actually a ‘home game’ for BYU — and on homecoming no less.

For BYU fans, it was no surprise to see the Cougar faithful showing up to support their team on the road. Due to the affiliation with the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, the Cougars have a built-in worldwide fanbase.

And you can bet your bottom dollar that no matter who BYU plays or where they play, the BYU faithful will be there — rain or shine.

This was the case during Independence when the Cougars went on the road and played the likes of Wisconsin, USC, Texas, Michigan State, and Notre Dame to name just a few. Cougar fans also couldn’t forget about the trip to Neyland Stadium as the Cougars forced overtime with an incredible last-second drive with less than a minute to go without any timeouts. While the loss stung, Tennessee fans had a lot of nice things to say about the BYU faithful.

UCF fans weren’t the only ones surprised by the massive fan base as the TV announcers made sure to talk about it as well.

It’s estimated that around 40% of the more than 42,000 fans that were in attendance were BYU fans. And by the end of the game, the stadium was half empty, with only Cougar fans remaining as BYU rolled to a dominating 37-24 victory. The game wasn’t as close as the score indicated thanks to two touchdowns late in the fourth quarter for the Knights.

See my tweet below regarding the conversation the TV announcers had about the BYU crowd:

Here’s the text version as well:

Mike Couzens (Play-By-Play): “As the score has widened, the game has waned on. The balance of the crowd is tilting heavily towards the BYU fans.”

Brock Osweiler (Analyst): “No doubt about it. I look out this booth and all I see is a sea of blue right now. The Cougar fans have traveled down to Florida really well. Strong presence.”

Mike Couzens: “Stormy, I imagine what you are hearing down on the field is a lot more BYU fans.”

Stormy Buonantony (Sideline): “Oh yeah. And it’s been felt throughout. When BYU’s defense is out here and it’s a third down, the crowd is rising up. There was a photographer that I spoke to on the field earlier that said ‘he’s been covering games here for 15 years and has never seen another fan base take over the stands like BYU fans did today.’ We know they (BYU) love to travel. They do so in droves.”

No matter where the game is being played, the BYU faithful shows up. That was certainly the case once again and Big 12 opponents are starting to find out. As the saying goes, ‘every game is a home game for BYU.’
