Every week on Stadium Sportzz, we will be posting weekly reviews of the three major men’s college basketball programs in the state.

With college basketball season just underway, let’s take a look at the results for each of the teams as they push for a bid to the 2022 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament.

BYU Cougars (8-2)

After beating Utah State on Wednesday, the Cougars fell to Creighton on Saturday to bring their record to 8-2.

Wednesday vs. Utah State – won 82-71

Facing in-state rival Utah State, the Cougars took a big lead and held on for its 10th straight win over the Aggies.

Leading by as many as 20 points, BYU shot 50 percent from the field, highlighted by an 11-of-24 clip from downtown (45.8 percent).

Alex Barcello led the Cougars with 17 points, while Te’Jon Lucas and Fousseyni Traore each added 14. Trevin Knell chipped in with a season-high 13 points for BYU.

The Cougars both outrebounded (31-26) and out-assisted (19-14) the Aggies in the victory.

Saturday vs. Creighton – lost 83-71

Coming off a rivalry win, BYU fell to Creighton on a neutral floor in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Trailing by 18 at the half, the Cougars fell for the second time this season. The loss also dropped the team from the national rankings.

Alex Barcello dropped a game-high 28 points, and Seneca Knight added 13 – the only two players to reach double-figure scoring for the Cougars.
