The college soccer season – both women’s and men’s – is starting to hit its stride as teams gear up for conference play. How did each of Utah’s collegiate programs fare in the past week?

Women’s volleyball: Utah State, UVU go undefeated to highlight week of matches

Utah Valley

Women’s team

After falling to Alabama 4-1 on Tuesday, the Wolverines headed into a big matchup at rival No. 13 BYU on Saturday night.

UVU was the underdog, and it appeared the Cougars were headed for a win after scoring in the fifth minute. The Wolverines battled back however when Hannah Lee tied the game in the 12th minute.

Utah Valley took the lead in the 25th minute when Heather Stainbrook scored her fourth goal of the season, but BYU evened the scoreline 15 minutes later.

Then right before the halftime whistle, Isabella Stewart headed a corner kick into the back of the net for the 3-2 UVU lead.

The Wolverines put the game away in the 79th minute, thanks to a Julianna Carter goal that made the score 4-2 and silenced the BYU home crowd. UVU held out for the final minutes to secure the upset victory over a nationally ranked Cougar team.

Up next

The Wolverines (4-1-2) begin WAC play this week, first traveling to New Mexico State on Friday, Sep. 16. UVU will then face Sam Houston State on the road on Sunday, Sep. 18.

The match against the Aggies begins at 7 p.m., while the game against Sam Houston kicks off at 12 p.m. Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.

Men’s team

The UVU men’s soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Thursday, defeating Cal State Northridge 2-0. Mark Andros and Kendi Bellini recorded goals in the win.

UVU then traveled to UC Santa Barbara on Sunday, where they lost 5-1.

Up next

The Wolverines (2-2-1) play once this week, facing Santa Clara on the road. The game is set to begin on Friday, Sep. 16 at 8:30 p.m. and can be seen on the WCC Network.

Utah Tech

Women’s team

Utah Tech began the week on a two-match winning streak, something they had no plans in ending in the past week.

The Trailblazers hosted Idaho State on Friday, coming away with a 1-0 win thanks to a Lacy Fox goal.

Utah Tech then hosted in-state foe Weber State on Sunday afternoon. The match was close throughout, but a late Karli Nyland goal gave the Trailblazers another 1-0 victory.

Utah Tech has now won four straight matches, all of which have been shutouts. Goalkeeper Kayla Thompson has been impressive in net for the Trailblazers, having saved 27 shots so far this season while recording four clean sheets.

Up next, Utah Tech (4-2) hosts a pair of matches this week to open WAC play. They’ll first face Stephen F. Austin on Friday, Sep. 16 at 5 p.m. before taking on UTRGV on Sunday, Sep. 18 at 1 p.m.

Both matches can be streamed via ESPN+.

Men’s team

The Trailblazer men’s soccer team played once this week, defeating Cal State Bakersfield on Thursday 1-0. It was the first victory of the season for Utah Tech and snapped a three-match losing streak.

Utah Tech (1-3) plays twice this week, first hosting Santa Clara on Monday, Sep. 12 at 7 p.m. The Trailblazers then battle Sacramento State at home on Friday, Sep. 16 at 7:30 p.m.

Both matches can be seen on ESPN+.

BYU

The Cougars had a difficult week on the field, drawing 3-3 with Arkansas on Thursday before falling 4-2 at home versus rival Utah Valley on Saturday.

BYU (3-1-2) will look to get in the win column when they face two in-state opponents this week.

First, the Cougars will travel to Logan to play Utah State on Thursday, Sep. 15 at 5 p.m. BYU then hosts Utah on Saturday, Sep. 17 at 7 p.m., which can be seen on BYUtv.

Utah State

Coming into the week on a five-match unbeaten streak, Utah State lost twice during the week.

The Aggies first lost to Texas on Thursday 2-1, before falling to Utah 1-0 on Sunday.

The Aggies (2-2-3) look to get back to winning with a pair of matches this week.

Utah State will face rival BYU at home on Thursday, Sep. 15 at 5 p.m. before traveling to Northern Colorado on Sunday, Sep. 18 at 12 p.m. The match against the Bears can be viewed on ESPN+.

Utah

The Utes played just once this week, defeating in-state foe Utah State 1-0 on Sunday at home. Taliana Kaufusi scored at the hour mark to give Utah the victory.

Utah football: Utes bounce back with a massive win

Weber State

Weber State played twice this past week, losing both matches by one-goal margins.

The Wildcats first fell 2-1 to Pacific on Thursday, before losing to rival Utah Tech on Sunday, 1-0.
