FCS football: SUU, Utah Tech both drop Week 5 matchups

Utah Valley

Women’s team

Playing two matches this past week, UVU fell behind in both before recording thrilling come-from-behind victories.

Friday’s match

Falling behind 3-0 against Cal Baptist on Thursday, the Wolverines got on the board in the 59th minute courtesy of a Faith Webber goal.

Ten minutes later, Webber scored her second goal of the match to make the score 3-2.

Still trailing by a goal, the Wolverines made it 3-3 just a minute and a half later, this time by Hannah Lee finding the back of the net.

UVU put the finishing touches on the unlikely comeback, thanks to Webber scoring a third goal in the 84th minute to complete a hat trick and a 4-3 Wolverines win.

Sunday’s match

Trailing 1-0 at halftime against Grand Canyon, UVU stormed back for another last-minute victory.

Faith Webber scored her fourth goal of the week to tie the game in the 54th minute before Julianna Carter scored the winner in the 88th minute for the 2-1 Wolverines victory.

Utah Valley (7-2-3, 3-0-1 WAC) now plays just one match while looking to extend its winning streak this week.

The Wolverines will travel to face Seattle on Saturday, Oct. 8 at 8 p.m. MT. The match can be streamed via ESPN+.

Men’s team

UVU men’s soccer did not play any matches in the past week.

Up next

The Wolverines (2-3-1) begin WAC play with a pair of road matches this week.

First, UVU will take on Grand Canyon on Friday, Oct. 7 at 8 p.m. before battling Air Force on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1 p.m.

Weber State

Playing just once this past week, Weber State recorded a 2-1 win over Northern Arizona on Thursday. The victory was the first for the Wildcats in Big Sky play.

Up next

Weber State (2-9, 1-2) will now hit the road for two conference games this week.

First, the Wildcats will face Sacramento State on Friday, Oct. 7 at 4:30 p.m. MT before matching up with Portland State on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 2 p.m. MT.

Women’s team

Playing once this past week, Utah Tech led 1-0 at halftime at rival SUU before the game was postponed due to inclement weather.

The second half of the match will be resumed at a yet-to-be-determined date.

First, Utah Tech will battle Sam Houston on Friday, Oct. 7 at 7:30 p.m. before facing first-place New Mexico State on Sunday, Oct. 9 at 1:30 p.m.

Men’s team

The Utah Tech men’s team opened WAC play this past week, winning once and losing once.

After beating Grand Canyon 2-1 on Friday, the Trailblazers fell 3-0 against Air Force on Sunday.

Playing two away matches, the Aggies lost once before securing a draw on Sunday.

USU was defeated 2-1 at Wyoming on Thursday, before battling to a 2-2 draw at Colorado State to end the week.

Opening WCC play, the Cougars played just once this past week, battling to a scoreless draw at Saint Mary’s on Saturday.
