Death, taxes, and BYU beating Utah in basketball.
Once again, the Cougars took down the Utes (75-66) in the non-conference matchup Saturday afternoon at the Marriott Center. With the win, BYU improved to 8-5 on the season — including a three-game winning streak which includes a win over then-No. 21 Creighton. The victory also gave BYU its 16th win in the last 21 meetings with Utah.
With the loss, the Utes dropped to 9-3 on the season, ending a 5-game winning streak that included a win over Pac-12 powerhouse Arizona, which was ranked No. 4 at the time.
Rudi Williams led the way for BYU as the senior scored a game-high 26 points in the victory. The 6-foot-2, 190-pound guard made 9 of 13 field goals, including two 3-pointers, and went 6-of-7 from the foul line. But most importantly, the senior did not have a turnover, something that has been a big challenge for him this year.
Fousseyni Traore nearly missed out on a double-double as the sophomore forward had 17 points and 8 rebounds. Gideon George chipped in with 11 points and Jaxson Robinson added 10 points. Freshman Dallin Hall scored just eight points, but he also had a game-high 5 assists and two steals.
Incredibly, both of BYU’s last football and basketball wins against Utah have been by nine points. Saturday was extra special for Cougar fans as the football team defeated SMU in a thriller to win the New Mexico Bowl.
Here’s how the media, players, and fans reacted after the win:

Does Craig Smith need to do 23andMe to find out that Mark Pope is his daddy? Or is the 0-5 record enough?
