Facing Boise State at home Monday night, the Aggies won in four sets to claim hardware for the third straight campaign.

The first set was a close battle, but the Broncos eventually prevailed 27-25.

Boise State carried the momentum into the second set, storming out to a 15-8 lead. The first-place Aggies weren’t about to concede the set, however, responding with an 11-2 run to take the 19-17 advantage. After trading the next few points, Utah State closed the set on a 4-0 run to claim the set 25-20 and even the match at 1-1.

Both teams went back and forth in the third set before the Aggies put together a 6-1 spurt to go ahead 22-19. Boise State responded with a 5-0 run of its own, jumping in front 24-22. After tying the set at 24 apiece, USU took three of the next four points to claim the set 27-24 and take a 2-1 lead in the match.

The score was close again early in the fourth frame, but the Aggies went on a 7-1 run to take a seven-point lead, 19-12. The Broncos were able to cut the Utah State lead to four, but the home team closed out the set, winning 25-20 and claiming a 3-1 match victory and the outright Mountain West regular season title.

Ags just keep winning

With the win, the Aggies improved to 21-5 overall, including 14-1 in Mountain West action.

The victory was also the 11th in a row for Utah State, its longest winning run since 2010.

USU has also registered 14 conference wins so far this season, tied for the most in the program’s Mountain West era. The Aggies are just one win from tying the single season record for conference victories, which was set by the 2010 WAC champions who won 15 matches.

By clinching the regular season MW title, Utah State has now won a conference championship in three consecutive seasons. Along with this season, the Aggies won the Mountain West Tournament in 2022 and claimed the MW regular season title in 2021.
