A week off for Utah Tech men’s basketball did nothing to stop the momentum of a winning streak.

Facing the University of Texas-Rio Grande Valley at home Thursday night, the Utah Tech Trailblazers picked up a win in their Western Athletic Conference opener.

While the game was close throughout, the Trailblazers pulled away in the second half to secure the double-digit victory.

Isaiah Pope led Utah Tech with 20 points, adding five assists and five rebounds.

Jacob Nicolds tallied 18 points and grabbed nine rebounds for the Trailblazers, while Dancell Leter grabbed a game-high 13 rebounds to go with nine points.

The Trailblazers dominated the glass in the win, outrebounding the Vaqueros 51-28. Utah Tech also tallied 18 assists in the game (12 for UTRGV).

The victory was Utah Tech’s sixth straight, as they head into 2023 with a lot of momentum to build upon as the schedule fills up with conference foes.
